Likely due to identical reductases originated from azoreductases and nitroreductases, the more promising nitro group reduction performance of decolorizers (Aeromonas hydrophila NIU01, A. tecta 644, A.salmonicida 741,760 and 829, Exiguobacterium acetylicum NIU-K2, E. indicum NIU-K4 and Enterobacter cancerogenus BYm30) were revealed via evaluation of specific reduction rate (SRR) of 4-nitrobenzoic acid (4-NBA). As the rank of SRR (unit: mg L-1h-1ODU-1) of 4-NBA reduction indicated, NIU-01 (5.07) was the highest and the lowest rate was NIU-K4 (0.13) in LB-removed cultures; however, NIU-K4 (4.56) was the highest and the lowest rate were 644 and 829 (0.11) quantified via colorimetric method in LB cultures. Apparently, these indigenous strains with the significant capabilities for decolorization of azo dyes would also express the promising capabilities to reduce 4-NBA to 4-ABA. That is, these indigenous strains with the multiple-sepectrum capabilities for reduction would be very appropriate to be used for treatment of organic pollutants (e.g., NACs-containing or azo dyes-containing wastewater).
