Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北大學 === 社會學系 === 101 === Global aging is spreading rapidly. The reasons why the old tide would emerge are human life span continues to grow and the baby boom generated after World War II. Therefore, it is worthy of further researching in the baby boomers’ preparation of their lives in old age. This study attempts to research on baby boomers’ characteristics and current statuses via literature review to understand their life styles and to find out their imaginations of retirement plans. We used qualitative interview and purposeful sampling to conduct a survey for twelve baby boomers as samples. Consequently, this study has two main topics. First one is I would like to know these baby boomers’ thoughts whom are married or not and have children or not toward their retirement plans. Second one is I wonder how they program their retirement plans earlier by adding a concept of the successful aging. There are four major findings. First, three types of retirement planning can be categorized including “to live without planning”, “to build castles in the air”, and “planning and preparing”. Second, the two types, “to live without planning” and “to build castles in the air”, are more likely to face the problems including “having too much time”, “interacting with family members”, “maintaining social relationship and interaction”, and “bridge-employment barrier”. Third, although retirement should not be considered as the same as the aged in life cycle, the adjusting problems caused by ageing still exist during the retirement period. Fourth, differences on retirement planning between different family types. Overall, the main two factors which are subject to baby boomers’ retirement plans are economic and health conditions. It’s better for baby boomers to be well prepared for their retirement plans because in the future, to live longer, more funds needed. In the end, I give some suggestions to baby boomers, government policies, and future related researches.
