Schumann was talented in both music and literature, and was gifted in combining literary elements in his music. His musical compositions are not only stylistically unique, but also reflected his own hidden personalities, emotions and thoughts. Among Schumann’s compositional output, the piano pieces played an important role, the character piece especially. The character pieces represent Schumann’s musical style the most. Generally, Schumann’s character piece is written in a simple structure. Often, several small character pieces are grouped into a suite, illustrating the characteristics of Schumann’s melody, rhythm, structure and texture as well as other special characters. Bunte Blätter, Op.99, for example, is a suite Schumann published in 1852, containing fourteen character pieces written between 1836 and 1849. This essay discussing various stylistic characteristics of the Bunte Blätter in five chapters: Chapter I: Introduction; Chapter II: Biography and characteristics of Schumann, including connections with literature, title, structure of form, characteristics of rhythms, melody and harmony; Chapter III: The background of Bunte Blätter; Chapter IV: Music analysis and interpretation of Bunte Blätter; and Chapter V: Conclusion. Hoping to share the research result and the personal interpretation with the performers that are interested in Bunte Blätter. Lin, Ming-Hui 林明慧 2014 學位論文 ; thesis 112 zh-TW |
