Evaluation of light environment via illuminance of vertical plane and uniformity was also insufficient for the working behavior with VDT in offices. In this study, the effect of installing light shelf and curved ceiling was studied to improve visual comfort and energy conservation. Measurements of illuminance and luminance of visual field were first carried out to verify the analysis of visual brightness (Feu) via simulation software AGI32. Different types of the light shelves and lighting equipments with curved ceilings were then studied. Finally, visual comfort and energy conservation was studied to evaluate the design strategies of light environment for row-houses in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. In the study, curved ceiling was parallel used with various types of light shelves in the day-time, and combined with lighting equipments in the night-time. The results show that during daytime, the optimal day-lighting efficiency of the ceiling shape was two-side curved ceiling with the increasing of its rear curvature.
