However, the service innovation in the industry is easily to be imitated or plagiarized, therefore, the life cycle of service innovation is relatively short. In order to protect innovative ideas from being copied, filing for patents of business methods is one of the tools of protecting. The purpose of the research is to explore the current patent distribution of convenience store and future growing tendency. This research uses M-Trends tool to search the patents of services in recent 30 years from WEBPAT. Then, the searched patent information is further analyzed by patent type, cross analysis, ownerships of country, company R&D ability, and inventors. Finally, through the outcome of literature review and patent analysis, patent tendency of business methods of the convenience store are concluded. The result shows, the connection with on-line dealing systems, methods, mobile devices’ on-line payment and net-work transaction platform will be the convenience store’s patent tendency. Therefore, the issue of filing or asking for authorization of related patents, or even more, taking patent attacking or defensive strategy should be seriously considered by the convenience stores.
