In the mass media of information presented on the Hakka community to give the impression that there are hard-working and staminal, traditional, thrifty, and stingy. However, this is the kind of stereotype, Hakka homogeneity of imagination. For search of Hakka heterogeneity, this study applied life style analysis and the milieu-indicator model, which sociologists have usually applied to analyze social structure, and used questionnaires in qualitative research methods. The study used AIO questionnaire to investigate the Hakka life-style. From this analysis, we can understand the Hakka life-style, including consumption and leisure. In order to achieve these research objectives, the study adopts quantitative research methods. The subjects were Hakka in Miaoli County. Questionnaires were used as a research tool. Out of the 354 questionnaires distributed, 336 were valid responses. Data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, and chi-square test. This research found that there are four different types of Hakka lifestyles in Miaoli County, including “aggressive and challenging”, “traditional and cautious”, “carefree and steady”, and “modern and autonomous”. Description of these four types of Hakka life-style: (1) type of “aggressive and challenging” is not picky, free and easy; (2) type of “traditional and cautious” is loving family and orderly; (3) type of “carefree and steady” is law-abiding and take things easy; (4) type of “modern and autonomous” is strong-minded and fashionable. The main results are as followings, these four different types of Hakka lifestyles in Miaoli County, in career, marriage, children status, religion, education level and age, there is a significant difference respectively. There are also differences in the face of consumption and leisure. Finally, based on the empirical research results, this study made inferences and explained research limitations, and proposed detailed suggestions with regards to follow researchers related the study of Hakka life-style.
