Summary:碩士 === 臺北市立大學 === 中國語文學系碩士班 === 103 === 《Shuo Wen Jie Tzi》 is the first dictionary systematically analyzing Chinese characters' forms, phonetics, meanings and origins, and Chinese cultures are also written in this Chinese Grammatology book. The author would focus on the characters related to the apparel in 《Shuo Wen Jie Tzi》, exploring their origins, correct usages and researching them practically to find ancestors' thinking and values through the apparel culture. This thesis is arranged under six chapters. Chapter one - preface, narrates the research motivation, purpose, scope, methods and reviews significant literatures. Chapter two is the general introduction of the apparel, reviewing the evolution and formation of the apparel from Upper Paleolithic to the Eastern Han Dynasty, and further stating origins and materials about apparel by the way of analyzing Chinese characters and studying literatures. Chapter three and four are the discussion of the characters related to the apparel in 《Shuo Wen Jie Tzi》. The author explores foundations and correct usages of various clothing such as head-clothing, body-clothing, foot-clothing and ornaments by the ways of form analysis, literature review and conclusion. Via researching various characters about clothing to realize how highly do ancients put emphasis on the clothing and the complication of Chinese clothing styles. Also, the influences of clothing toward society and the characteristics of folk cultures are reflected as well. Chapter five focuses on the culture of clothing characters in 《Shuo Wen Jie Tzi》. Initially, it is the introduction the origin and development of textile industry, and then is the discussion of each kind of clothing- 衣(yi "clothes"), 裳(shang "skirt"), 褲(ku "trouser"), 深衣(shenyi "robe"), and Hu Fu. Furthermore, from the study of the characters about veined patterns, colors, qualities and levels discovers Chinese silk fabric's characteristics - abundant kinds and vivid colors. Chapter Six is the conclusion, arranging the entire arguments, and summarizing the research results of this thesis. Human beings use characters to communicate, which indirectly reveals characters are sent on a mission to pass on cultures. Through characters, human production activities are truly pictured, and meanwhile corresponding era's human civilizations are reflected through them. Moreover, characters take humans as center, so they can reflect creator's mind and emotions.
