Road running has become one of the most popular leisure activities in Taiwan, and the number of female road runners has increased significantly. However, women’s physical self-concepts, shaped by a variety of factors, including the differences of genetic physiological and psychological development between genders, age, family responsibilities, social expectations and social needs, cause different participation motivation and leisure benefits, which furthermore affect their re-participation willingness. The purpose of the research was to explore the impacts of physical self-concepts, participation motivation and leisure benefits on re-participation willingness of female road runners. Female road runners in Taichung City, Nantou City and Tsaotun County were studied, adopting snowball sampling and convenience sampling methods, with 400 questionnaires distributed and 372 valid copies retrieved. The returning rate was 93%. The research findings show that there are partial significant differences in physicals self-concepts, participation motivation, leisure benefits and re-participation willingness among female road runners with different personal backgrounds. In physicals self-concepts, physical fitness and physical state have positive impacts on the re-participation willingness, while physical appearances have negative impacts on re-participation willingness. In participation motivation, social supports and health behavior positively affects re-participation willingness, while self-expression negatively affects re-participation willingness. In leisure benefits, physiological effects and psychological benefits positively affects re-participation willingness, while social benefits have no significant impacts on re-participation willingness. Overall, leisure benefit is the most influential factor on re-participation willingness. Leisure benefit is the key element to the re-participation willingness of female road runners.
