A common question that people ask is, “What else exactly can we eat?” With ever-increasing attention to issues of food and agriculture, most people hope to find safe and eco-friendly produce. In addition, the trend for environmental protection and organic farming has also brought many intellectuals back to the countryside, initiating another trend of rustic lifestyle in the rural areas. This has been exemplified by the popularity of “Half Farming; Half X” in eastern Taiwan. This research focuses on 200 Akkers (transliterated as “Liang Bai Jia”), a voluntary, grass roots organization in Yilan. 200 Akkers devotes itself to the creation and promotion of a farming-friendly environment. Its members join in the form of “Half Farming; Half X.” Hence, the development of 200 Akkers will blossom depending on a variety of actual participation of its members. The qualitative methodology used in this research focuses on 200 Akkers by conducting in-depth interview with its founder, old and new members. The research aims to reveal the workings of 200 Akkers, unravel the obstacles it faces and analyze the impact it has caused in the village. The research has demonstrated that the “Half Farming; Half X” form of operation is feasible. New farmers, through this format, which helps re-vitalize the village, are able to blend in quickly. It is hoped that this form of operation can be popularized in other areas, contributing to the sustainable development of Taiwanese agriculture, which in turn draws young blood back to the village. 何振盛 2016 學位論文 ; thesis 153 zh-TW |
