The resemblance between the obsession with material life and religion is the act of worship, which does not only occur during religious rituals, but also in the form of consuming behavior, namely, material fetishism. The purpose of this artistic survey was to investigate the correspondence between people’s reliance on material consumption and religious devotion. This project was carried out from 2012 to 2015. The author combined the following elements: the airborne figures of Tung-Hung Cave Paintings, Tibetan Buddhist motifs, and phenomena of modern societies. These surrounded two elements, consumption and religion. The above combination, along with personal experience and feelings, explored contemporary Taiwan metropolitan consumer culture. The major purpose of this survey is as following: 1. To explore consumption-oriented taste on religion, and its core value. 2. To investigate the relationship between sub-cultures and religious beliefs. 3. Through the creation of images, to reveal the relationship between daily consumption behaviors and religious beliefs. The author used contemporary material objects related to popular culture as major content. Cartoon and comic style were used as a reference in composition and subject matter. To enrich the image, forms and colors associated with modern life were also applied.
