The study aims to analyze the origin and the development of the belief in the goddess in Taiwan and to probe into documentary photography and documentary photographers of Mazu belief. The study focused on the religious ceremonies in Fengtian Temple, a Mazu temple, in Hsingkang Township, Chiayi County to probe into various activities deriving from persons, matters and objects related to the temple. The topic of the photographic creation is “Aspirations for Goddess’ Love,” and it aims to express the feeling of being touched by religious activities of Mazu belief. The creation is presented with the two series of “Goddess Followers” and “Elite Assembly.” The former includes 17 works, and its subjects range from prominent politicians and businessmen to common people. These works chiefly express that the infinite mercy of Mazu makes both high-ranking officials and common people eager to get close to the goddess, and thus “people’s hearts yearn for where the goddess is.” The series of “Elite Assembly” contains 17 works which present the prosperous scene of people gathering in Hsingkang joyfully to worship the goddess. Through the two series of images, viewers can see the various aspects of Fengtian Temple in Hsingkang and enjoy the beauty of the religious ceremonies of Mazu belief. Through the compilation and organization of information, the researcher has learned to expound her photographic works with academic interpretation. Through the above-mentioned two series of creations, the researcher has also gained better understanding of the culture of her hometown and determined to protect the treasure of Fengtain Temple, a Mazu temple. The researcher anticipates that she can constantly make efforts to improve her own photographic works and to protect the culture of Mazu belief. HUANG,CHIA-SEN 黃嘉勝 2015 學位論文 ; thesis 88 zh-TW
