In the traditional agricultural period, Taiwan’s glove puppetry blended into the daily life of the public. During the special period of “one village one temple”, people always had a live puppet show to celebrate the god’s birthday or the special event of The Chia ceremony. The shows were not only to entertain gods and people, but also to show the concept of the religion’s activities. And it also represented the local culture. Glove puppetry used to be one of the most popular forms of entertainment in Taiwan with the development of time and the environment. This study uses document analysis, fieldwork, transcription, sociology, anthropology and ethnomusicology as the study methods. Using these theories will help to understand the factors that influence the background music of glove puppetry now and over time. Starting with, how to train the musicians and the development of the glove puppet musicians and bands, then discussing the creative ideas and specialties of 「Chiafun Taiwan Major League」and the lastly the factors that influenced the glove puppetry background music and its characteristic.
