碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 音樂學系碩士班 === 105 === The principal purpose of this thesis is to discuss expressionism and twelve-tone serialism and the application of these theories in writer’s compositions, unfolding the compositional techniques and character of these works. This thesis is divided into two parts. The first part depicts fears and horror in war. The second part describes rebirth and hope after war and how to apply twelve-tone serialism in my composition. This research divided into five parts. First chapter, Introduction, explains research motivation, purpose, question to be answered, scope of research, academic terminology and structure in this research. The second chapter, literature review, reviews historic development of expressionism and study of twelve-tone serialism to understand related literature of twelve- tone series. Third chapter, Research Method, depicts direction of research and structure in this thesis. Fourth chapter, Music Analysis, explains how to apply twelve-tone serialism in composition and approach of composition. Fifth chapter, Conclusion, reviews and reflects the result in this research.
