Abstract
The establishment of the museum in Taiwan is very prevailing, and Pingtung Church established the Bible Museum under this trend. This study focuses on the importance and the value of the unique collection of the museum which is established with the Christian belief and culture, as well as the cultural and educational resources that Bible Museum has contributed in promoting the community continuing education.
The purpose of the study is to provide a case study (the evolution, the operating status and characteristics, and the future development) of the Bible Museum from the time horizon. I further discuss the main functions of the Bible Museum: collection, research, exhibition, education (Christian education and Nanzishujiao Community College), and explore its orientation and the community continuing education. I hope that my study can provide a reference to further researchers and to those who are interested in the related studies of Pingtung Christian Presbyterian Church or Bible Museum.
The conclusions of the study are as following. The orientation of the biblical museum includes the Pingtung Church, the ancestor of the missionary history, established Bible Museum as a mission base to activate the communication within the community, according to the historical development in the Pingtung area. The up-to-date characteristics of the Bible Museum is that its museum architecture and rich cultural field of an old church transmit the excellence of the Christian culture and the influence of the Bible. In the future development, Taiwan Presbyterian Church will work on building the historical collection, evaluating the monuments of the old church, building the historical records, and designing the multi-angle exhibition. The collections of the multilingual Bible preserve human languages as well as pay more attention on Taiwan native language. Through the sharing of the academic resources among domestic and abroad well-known biblical institutions, the Bible Museum can be operated sustainably and plan the permanent biblical theme exhibition and special missionary exhibition.
Community continuing education includes Christian education in all ages, Sunday school, special ministry and other education system. Nanzishujiao Community College provides major and elective courses to promote a learning community and build a cultural life circle.
