Being the daughter of Ninagawa Sachio (1935-2016), a famous Japanese theater director, Mika was greatly influenced by her father’s oriental aesthetics containging a strong colorful style and visual effect. During the 20 years from 1998 to 2016, she published nearly 75 volumes of photography and two film works, namely SAKURAN in 2007 and HELTER-SKELTER in 2012. Mika also designed for several top rated fashion brand before she was appointed as the visual director of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and Disability Games in 2014. She later initiated her own personal clothing brand M/ mika ninagawa in 2015, and literally speaking, her artistic creation is ubiquitous in Asia and the world. This paper focuses on analyzing the two films SAKURAN and HELTER-SKELTER of Ninagawa Mika by tracing her visual style back to photography and multiple works of design, in order to understand Mika’s interelation within the mass consumption society. Ninagawa Mika’s art creation in the three areas of photography, film and design, which are all full of personal style with highly visual impact to the contemporary culture. At last, I will try to reveal Ninagawa Mika’s creativeness and significance.
