The fluorene and carbazole moieties were designed to exhibit fluorescence (fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) donor). However, the DPP was used as FRET acceptor and recognition unit for and Fe3+. The intermolecular interaction between PFCAOH and DPP was investigated using FT-IR, UV and PL spectra. The effects of the DPP structure on the optical and chemosensory properties of the polymer composites were investigated. The conjugated polymer composite spectra had strong emission band at approximately 540‒554 nm when in a tetrahydrofuran (THF) solution, attributable to the FRET between PFCAOH and DPP units. The emission colors of polymer composites in Fe3+ aqueous solutions changed from blue to yellow because of FRET from (PFCAOH) (donor) to DPP (acceptor). Photoluminescence titrations demonstrated that the DPP and PFCAOH blended with 50% DPP showed high sensitivity toward Fe3+, with the Stern-Volmer constants of 1.78 × 104 M-1 and 1.68 × 104 M-1, respectively. The prepared fluorescent conjugated polymer composites can be used as chemosensory sensors and have potential for application in multifunctional environment sensing devices.
