Numerically, a three-dimensional, steady, incompressible turbulent flow model was developed by the ANSYS/Fluent® as a computation platform to simulate the internal thermo-fluid field inside the keyboard structure. The best location and opening of a backlight keyboard can be therefore determined to enhance the cooling performance. Experimentally, we employed a CCD camera to measure backlit outcome of the keyboard. Combining the CFD results and backlit performance data to select the best solution built in a gaming laptop system, we used thermal couples and a data acquisition system to measure the temperatures of the surface and important components of the gaming laptop, and then compared the temperature distributions of the non-opening type with opening type for the keyboard designs.
