The research questions are as follows: Under what historical conditions has “traditional” Truku song and dance been constructed to become operatic? What are the attributes of Truku contemporary dance? How will dance-making inscribe specific symbols recognizable by members of Truku as a “re-invented tradition”? What are the contemporary cultural imageries represented by those two modern dance works? The studies found out that both choreographers commit to preservation of their cultures and identification with their roots are well reflected through their works. One presents a cultural imagery of “modern mythology” by means of colorful stories. The other’s cultural imagery tends to perform “avant-garde gaya” along with percussive rhythms. With such modern dance works, the author has perceived a new blueprint which may come in handy to choreographers when they manage to give new insights to Truku tradition.
