都市機能の高度化が目覚ましい日本で、ヨーロッパ諸都市などと比較して都市景観が貧弱な根本的原因と背景を探り、あるべき日本の景観政策を考察することが研究の目的である。そのために、日本の都市景観の現況、都市景観研究の軌跡、日本人の自然観・風景観と集落・都市形成、日本の近代化過程、自治体の景観政策、市民意識の動向、景観訴訟からアプローチし、展望を試みた。 === Today, Japanese enjoy very convenient urban life. On the contrary urban landscape and aesthetic order are in confusion and disorder in comparison with european cities. To improve such condition, I considered the present problems in Japan, preceding studies, japanese consciousness on nature and landscape, process of formation of cities, characterisitics of japanese modernization, lawsuit on urban landscape.
