The late Neoproterozoic tholeiitic-boninitic lavas and minor magnesian andesites cropping out in the Kurai Ridge, southeast of the Gorny Altai terrane, represent magmatic products of the nascent Kuznetsk-Altai intra-oceanic island arc southwest off the Siberian continent.
