The media's influence on justice policy. A review of formal communication between Members of Parliament and the Minister of Justice and Public Security.
Parliamentary Questions are an important means by which Members of Parliament ensure the accountability of Government to Parliament for its policies and actions and, through Parliament, to the people. In examining the extent to which the media have any influence on Parliamentary Questions, this study shows that they do indeed influence questions put to a minister, while the minister's replies are only to a limited extent influenced by the information that Members of Parliament extract from the media. |
