Description
Summary:Based on the study of some adaptations of Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary (Minelli, Oliveira, Fontaine, Barthes), this contribution will consider the question of cultural appropriation and transfer involved in filmic rewriting. In the triple distance of time, geography and ideology, the adaptation of a “classic” of French literature is necessarily accompanied by a subtle play of variations, conditioned not only by the director's singular reading and interpretation, but above all by the sphere of reception of the filmic work. We'll be looking at these cross-cultural, intermedial and inter-semiotic Bovaries.
