Description
Summary:Contrast is one of the semantic links between words that are considered both in grammar and rhetoric. In Saadi's odes, this semantic link is used in about fifty percent of the verses. The application of contrast in its simplest form is using opposite terminology to its complex form, contrast in the syntactic structure. What makes this device distinct in Saadi's odes is that contrast is often not the only device of the verse; but is combined with other linguistic elements and syntactic structures. So contrast is not an old and defunct device, but is living and stimulating. Grammatical mood ، repetitions and syntactic symmetry، relocation of main and if claused are the linguistic elements that are associated with contrast device. In some verses, the accompanying of contrast and the syntactic structure of sentences leads to a semantic contradiction of the two verses, and this unexpected entanglement fascinates the reader and is unique to Saadi.
