Description
Summary:Background: there are several causes of infertility. Cuba has developed strategies to provide differentiated care for couples with reproductive disorders. Objective: to characterize women treated in the assisted reproduction service of the Provincial Gynaecological Teaching Hospital "Ana Betancourt de Mora", Camagüey who achieved pregnancy during the period 2019-2020. Methods: a descriptive, cross-sectional observational study was carried out in the institution and time period declared. From the universe of 192 couples who came to the service and achieved pregnancy, a sample of 173 pregnant women with proven pregnancy after treatment was obtained. The variables studied included age groups, type of infertility, causal factor, etiological factor, tests, treatment, time of infertility and care. Results: pregnant women between 25 and 29 years of age (34.1 %) and secondary infertility (56.6 %) were more present, while the most frequent infertility factor was cervical (32.9 %). Follicular follow-up was performed in 138 females (79.8 %) and hysterosalpingography in 74 %. Controlled ovarian stimulation plus programmed intercourse was the most commonly used treatment (40.5 %). One third of women was treated for vaginal infection, the male factor was treated in almost the same proportion. Conclusions: most couples achieved pregnancy during the first two years of care; more than half had a history of infertility of five years or less.
