Autoimmune and non-autoimmune thyroid diseases have different patterns of cellular HLA class II expression

CONTEXT: Surface HLA-DR antigen is usually only expressed by antigen-presenting cells (APC). In autoimmune thyroid disease, follicle cells function as APC, thus expressing HLA-DR.
