En el presente artículo se fundamenta la utilidad de realizar un diagnóstico al iniciar la mejora de procesos de software, haciendo uso de los factores críticos de éxito para identificar las fortalezas y las debilidades de acometer el cambio. Los autores exponen en el artículo una propuesta del proceso de diagnóstico, los indicadores y cómo estos consideran los factores críticos de éxito. Se explica cómo mejorar la fase de diagnóstico y las técnicas aplicadas en esta área para identificar el estado de la organización integralmente y valorar las condiciones para iniciar la iniciativa. Los resultados permiten que las organizaciones cuenten con los principales elementos que inciden en el proceso para la gerencia del cambio. Se ratifica la importancia la importancia del diagnóstico integral en torno a los factores críticos de éxito y se demuestra la manera de hacerlo. ABSTRACT In this paper it is explained the utility of a diagnosis when starting the software process improvement, using the critical factors of success to identify the strengths and weaknesses of undertaking the change. The authors present a proposal of the diagnostic process, the indicators and how they consider the critical factors of success. It is explained how to improve the diagnostic phase and the techniques applied in this area in order to identify the status of the organization integrally and to assess the conditions for starting the initiative. The results permit the organizations to have the main elements that influence the process of change management. It is confirmed the importance of the comprehensive diagnosis related to the critical factors of success and it is demonstrated how to do it.
