| الملخص: | Purple urine bag syndrome (PUBS) is a rare entity first described by Barlow and Dickinson in 1978 characterized by purple discoloration of urine in long-term debilitated patients with chronic indwelling urinary catheters. This syndrome is a result of a breakdown of indole into indoxyl sulfate and further metabolic degradation into indigo by the bacteria in the urinary tract resulting in the characteristic purple hue of the urine. We describe the case of a 60-year-old male, bedridden due to traumatic paraplegia, presenting to us with lower abdominal pain and purple discoloration of urine due to Proteus mirabilis. |
