| Summary: | This article presents a literature review of methods for protecting steam turbine blade surfaces from wear in order to extendtheir service life. The analysis concludes that the main causes of blade damage are erosion-corrosion processes and the effect of elevatedtemperatures inside the turbine. Progressive wear reduces the efficiency and power output of the entire power unit. The most commonmethods used to protect blade surfaces from wear are: surface hardening, application of protective overlays, spraying of protective coatings, generation of layers by laser surfacing and shot peening of blade surfaces. The use of surface protection against wear extends theservice life of the turbine, reducing the cost and time-consuming repair work.
