| Summary: | This article examines the core concepts and theoretical approaches that define the contemporary study of nationalism and ethnic politics. It is intended to give readers a panoramic overview of the contemporary study of challenges surrounding the concept of ethnic minorities in the context of European integration. The article explores the creation of the international legislative framework for ethnic minorities status in the states involved in the process of European integration. Legislation and national political will have to take the needed steps for the implementation of international standards in order to represent the basic sources for the shaping of a decent status of its ethnic minorities.
