An extracellular siderophore is required to maintain the mutualistic interaction of Epichloë festucae with Lolium perenne.
We have identified from the mutualistic grass endophyte Epichloë festucae a non-ribosomal peptide synthetase gene (sidN) encoding a siderophore synthetase.
