Description
Summary:Urban environments are human inventions that adapt over time. This adaptation goes through several cycles of urban transformations and in some cases through processes of urban mutations. This article is part of the center-periphery duality as an issue linked to cycles of urban transformation. We analyze the relationships between a peripheral city and the urban centers that are interconnected with it. This issue enriches the discourse on the heterogeneity and multi-peripheral character of territories. We will take the case of the authentic city of Ganvié which is in the midst of urban mutation. We consider that Ganvié is a lakeside city whose urban evolution is linked to the urban development of the main urban centers of southern Benin (Cotonou, the economic capital, Porto-Novo, the political capital, Abomey-Calavi, Sèmè-Kpodji, residential dormitory towns). The main avenues of reflection that will be addressed are the following: the socio-spatial organization of the periphery and the urban dynamics of the center-periphery couple.
