Description
Summary:This study aims to describe three focuses, namely (1) the lingual unit activation in the tip of the tongue (ToT), (2) the word class of tip of the tongue, and (3) the mental process of the tip of the tongue experienced by Indonesian speakers. This research method is descriptive qualitative. The data collection techniques were questionnaires and interviews with Indonesian speakers at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The results showed that the activated lingual units in ToT consisted of three types, namely sound activation, syllable activation, and word activation. ToT occurs in nouns, verbs, and adjectives based on quantity. Most of the ToT vocabulary with the target vocabulary has the same type of word. The ToT mental process occurs through tactile vocabulary, phonological encoding, and decoding semantic features that are manifested in several forms, namely (1) remembering the final sounds/syllables of vocabulary, (2) remembering vocabulary that is similar to ToT vocabulary, and (3) imagining objects, activities, or anything else from the ToT vocabulary.
