Description
Summary:The paper presents the results of the assessment and verification of an impedance-frequency method of transverse fault location in medium voltage cables with a local weakening of insulation. A device cooperating with Hameg HM8118 LCR bridge was designed for this purpose. The objective of the method is to measure the input impedances for two different frequencies at one end of the cable with an open state at its other end as well as determining the transverse fault resistance and the distance to the fault location. The proposed method was compared to reflectometry. The effectiveness of the method was confirmed, by numerical and experimental verifications.
