| Summary: | G. Staab has
reconstructed line 12 of a fragmentary honorary inscription, found on the
Nemrud-Dağ, for the candidate to the Commagenian throne, Mithradates II, using
the extant letters ΛΟ𐅝 to restore them to [φι]λόσ[τοργον]. As
in other royal inscriptions from Commagene, the sigma in this inscription is of
a square type. However, its reading in said extant letters is not certain
because the lower horizontal hasta is
barely visible. To the right of this letter, at the fracture line, there seems
to be a vertical hasta, so that said
letter may rather be interpreted as a Pi. Owing to both this new insight and
the attested titulature of the later king, the title of Mithradates II missing
in this inscription is restored to [φι]λοπ[άτορα]. |
