| Summary: | Expropriation is part of the negative impacts of a project, along with the pollution and other temporary or permanent inconveniences imposed to the natural and human environment. In Cameroon, many legal provisions govern expropriations for public interest and require compensations for people who are affected. But as they are unaware of their rights, victims remain vulnerable to predation, that is the confiscation of their rights, even when the most stringent international societal standards are applied. Therefore, reforms against predatory practices in expropriation operations are as effective as they are part of a broader societal dynamic conducive to opening economic and political opportunities to all. |
