Pandemic Influenza; Regarding With Outpatient Clinic Data

Introduction:As in many of the countries, pandemic H1N1 influenza was one of the most interest-ing topics of the last winter in our country. In this study; all presentations to influenza clinic for outpatients at İbn-i Sina Hospital were evaluated and the general characteristics of Influenza A H1N1 (2009) was revealed.Results:Between 23 October 2009 and 14 January 2010, 2787 patients presented to adult influ-enza clinic for outpatients. The presentations increased week by week, and reached the maxi-mum level during the 47th week of 2009. Of all 1544 (55.4%) were female and the mean age was 31.7. The most common symptoms were cough (78.7%), fever (62.4%) and myalgia (41.1%). 35 patients (23 female, 6 male) were hospitalized. Pandemic Influenza A H1N1 virus was de-tected by PCR in 9 of 23 patients. According to the case definition criteria of Ministry of Health; 1681 (60.3%) patients were diagnosed as Influenza A H1N1 infection and 614 (22%) as common cold. Oseltamivir was used in 432 of 1681 patients those fulfilled the case definition criteria. Conclusion: The systematically data collection during the pandemic and sharing the data and the experience with health care facilities after the pandemic are important for management of forthcoming pandemics.
