   Unilateral economic sanctions, imposed by individual countries or groups, can have adverse impacts on human rights. When implementing such sanctions, states should consider humanitarian exemptions to ensure essential goods are not restricted, thereby upholding human rights in targeted countries. In contrast, collective sanctions, authorized through international resolutions after thorough evaluation, carry more weight in safeguarding human rights as they involve the majority of UN member states. A notable example is the collective economic sanctions on Iraq compared to the unilateral sanctions on Iran.
