This case report reviews the case of a young male patient presenting with hypertensive crisis following administration of general anesthetics and who was subsequently diagnosed with malignant pheochromocytoma. Up to date, no reliable predictive factors for malignant pheochromocytoma have been established. This case emphasizes the need for a systematic approach to the hypertensive crisis and advantages of nuclear imaging to differentiate benign from malignant disease through detection of local invasion and distant metastases.
