AN EXAMPLE OF A MODERN AND SIMPLE RELIGIOUS BUILDING: BALIKLI RUM HOSPITAL SMALL MOSQUE

Religion is one of the leading institutions that fulfill the need to believe or worship something in the journey of human beings on discovering their existence. Every religion has its own specially built structures. Architectural structures like temples, monasteries, churches, basilica, cathedrals, synagogues, mosques have also formed their typologies over time. Even though there are opinions on the point that these typologies developed with the construction techniques of the age drift apart today from the religion philosophy, it is also seen that this tradition has not been broken. This study focuses on a small mosque, one of the prayer places in our country. The selected building is the Small Mosque structure in the garden of Balıklı Rum Hospital. As a method, features and criteria related to space, which are among the effective parameters in organizing space, have been addressed, these parameters specific to the structure have been redefined, and the sub-headings have been examined in this context. For this purpose, there has been a contact with MEDAC Company, which carried out the projects, designs, and applications of the building, and a field trip was made with the architect İlhami Kurt, the owner of the company. As the interventions made at the reinforcement level have been seen since the year, it was put into service a section related to this has been added following an inspection. For the building assessments, apart from the photographs taken during the field trip, the photographs taken in the year it was put into service were used to lay the change bare. In the results section of the study, some data are introduced regarding how the features and criteria related to the place, which is one of the effective parameters in the organization of space, can be interpreted in the specific of a religious building. Furthermore, this study also emphasizes the continuity of the form created in architecture and the design philosophy that generates this form in the interior.
