Description
Summary:Polythelia or supernumerary nipple is the congenital abnormality of the breast more frequently reported with an estimated frequency of cases ranges between 0.2 % and 6 % in the general population, which depending on the population group studied. supernumerary nipples are considered thickened ectodermal remnants of embryonic mammary ridges and in ancient times were associated with fertility or divine powers. Several epidemiological studies have associated polythelia with other congenital abnormalities, especially kidney and urinary tract anomalies, but still there is insufficient evidence to correlate these conditions directly.
