It differs from the subsp. marginalis and the typical subspecies by its flowers with 9–10 tepals, suborbicular largest tepals, essentially free stamens being 19–22 and carpels being 21–25; and differs from S. henryi subsp. yunnanensis in having leaf blades abaxially glausecent, yellow flowers, and 19–22 essentially free stamens.
