Summary:Considering Long Distance Education (LDE) and the insertion of new information and communication technologies (ICTs) in the educational process, as an impactful organizational change promoted by Teaching Institutions, the objective of this research is to describe how long distance education services provided by the Institutions of Itaporanga – PB pole, change the reality of its users. In order to achieve this goal, a field research was conducted, aiming to: Identify and describe the educational institutions that provide LDE services at Itaporanga pole; historicize the process of the inclusion of LDE in the services of these institutions; check the benefits that this organizational change has brought about in people’s lives; highlight the need and importance of access to knowledge that this change has brought to Itaporanga society and neighboring regions. A questionnaire was applied to LDE students who are still taking their courses or the ones who have completed their degrees. It was also used with the Coordination of the Federal university of Paraíba (UFPB), State university of Paraíba (UEPB) and Federal Institute of Paraíba IFPB courses offered in Itaporanga – PB pole. After quantitative and qualitative analysis of the data, results indicated that the LDE is an organizational change promoted by the studied institutions that provides the population of Itaporanga with knowledge. It also promoted a change in the use of this technology.
