In small systems like those created in <inline-formula> <math display="inline"> <semantics> <mrow> <msup> <mi>e</mi> <mo>+</mo> </msup> <msup> <mi>e</mi> <mo>-</mo> </msup> <mo>-</mo> </mrow> </semantics> </math> </inline-formula> or <inline-formula> <math display="inline"> <semantics> <mrow> <mi>p</mi> <mo>+</mo> <mi>p</mi> </mrow> </semantics> </math> </inline-formula> collisions, the so-called Gamow factor (valid for a point-like particle source) gives an acceptable description of the Coulomb interaction. However, in larger systems such as central or mid-central heavy ion collisions, more involved approaches are needed.
