Sobre la identidad del traductor español de Examen crítico (1788)

In this study we suggest reassigning the authorship of the Spanish version of the leaflet Examen crítico and also that of Avisos sobre la necesidad de retirarse a ejercicios, which had been awarded by González Posada to Álvaro Miranda Solís, his fellow countryman. For this purpose, we have resorted to personal, literary and orthographic arguments, in an analysis that, apart from questioning the mentioned authorship of those texts, has allowed us to suggest, more speculatively, its substitution by that of Antonio Marqués y Espejo. This is not a minor question for his bibliography, because, if the aforementioned theory was confirmed, that would indicate that many other works in which he does not specify his name could have been written by him, especially during his youth. In this regard, we must not forget that, from 1801 onward and thanks to a better identification on the covers of this books, we know that he published an enormous amount of works, silencing, anyway, his authorship in some of them.
