Subdesenvolvimento Periférico: a compreensão estrutural no limiar da idiossincrasia econômica

The present work aims to delineate an understanding of Latin American underdevelopment from its structural and dependent perspective. Therefore, some of the literary contributions to development theory are recovered, and structural impediments to overcome peripheral subordination – both economic, social and international – are established. In this sense, we will begin with a general explanation of the collapse of the classical assumptions in the early twentieth century, and then examine the theoretical contribution granted through the literature of Imperialism, Dependency Theory, and the Cepal approach, and their significance in the Structural analysis. Finally, a diagnosis is made of the specificity of these structures in dependent countries, in the light of the Brazilian reality, in order to understand underdevelopment in its totality, in addition to purely economic causalities.
