Description
Summary:Currently, most rural areas in Romania are going through a demographic crisis, which manifests itself through an accelerated process of aging and a massive depopulation. One of the triggers of this process is the lack or precariousness of basic services such as healthcare services, education or lack of opportunity to have a decent job. A particular situation characterized by complexity and urgency of measures to be taken, is found in isolated areas where an aging population lives on the brink of subsistence, spread over a wide geographical area, without access to minimal services such as primary medicine services. The only solution to increase the quality and quantity of primary care services provided to the rural population and to bring these services, including in isolated areas, is to use technologies that can virtual connect the doctor and patient, the latter being able to receive guidance in certain procedures while remaining at home. In order to support local authorities and thus support the identification of optimal healthcare solutions for rural areas population, including for the isolated population, this paper aims to outline some basic features of a pilot telemedicine system in order to ensure an increased accessibility of people in isolated areas to primary healthcare services while increasing the quality of these services.
