Summary:Taking into consideration the urban restructuring so varied within itself and in its space, with the installation of new equipment and landscaping, Recife was modernized in order to harmonize with the overall forms of an industrial and consumer society between the last decade of the 1960’s and the final years of the 1970’s. Modernization which was designed by the activities of constituted public authority, associated with capital, coming from new opportunities allied with the wealthier classes interested in gainning money quickly, burdened the lower classes with the costs of this modernism, subsequently, expressed in literary narratives related to the period. In the article we discuss the critical content of these narratives and their relationship with this period of recent history of Recife
