Summary:This article presents the results derived from the document review process of the research called “Characterization of pedagogical practices and the role of the innovative teacher”. As part of this exercise, the concept of educational innovation, the socio-political context from which it emerges, the role of the teacher in innovation processes and pedagogical practice as a vital space for the development of innovation experiences are presented. These aspects are the result of the analysis of articles, books, and book chapters that meet criteria of thematic relevance, both theoretical and conceptual contributions, managing to broaden the understanding of innovation in interrelation with pedagogical practices.
