For this, a broad review of the literature and the collection of secondary data on the cited crops were carried out, based on the information contained in the Municipal Agricultural Production, the Municipal Livestock Production and the Agricultural and Livestock Censuses, all of Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). It is concluded that modern grain agriculture and export beef cattle have significant importance for the Tocantins' economy, but also contribute to aggravate some economic and social issues, such as land concentration, environmental degradation and expulsion of small producers and traditional populations from rural areas.https://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/geosul/article/view/61333AgronegócioFronteira agrícolaTocantins
