Description
Summary:Les Monstres des hommes is an almost unknown text from the central Middle Ages. But far from being a poor translation of Thomas de Cantimpré, this text constitutes a political and poetic charge of a rare violence against the society of its century. The images intervene here as a subversion : apparently banal, their critical impact is revealed by editing effects with the text they accompany. The very originality of the whole reveals unusual voices heard in the 13th century, which can be thought to be those of subordinates. Pending a new edition and a complete translation with Maud Pérez-Simon, this article proposes the translation of some examples of political monstrosity.
